BRINGING THE OUTDOORS INTO THE OFFICE

BRINGING THE OUTDOORS INTO THE OFFICE

Biophilic design experts have long said that adding live greenery to the workplace positively affects workers’ health and wellbeing. This is certainly the thinking behind our latest client’s philosophy.

Square Mile Farms create beautiful spaces that enrich the lives of city dwellers, providing them with the incredible physical and mental wellbeing benefits of plants whilst promoting a more sustainable agricultural system.

Square Mile Farms achieve this by integrating vertical farms into workplaces for big brands such as Vodafone and Mindful Chef, supported by unique engagement experiences like events and farm participation opportunities.

Vertically Urban has been working with Square Mile Farms to develop its beautiful, modular ‘plug and play’ vertical farm systems.

They can be installed in virtually any indoor space, and showcase nutritious, edible, aromatic plants that grow all year round. In this latest project, the modules are designed for the modern office environment.

An unusual application for our hugely popular Horti-Blade, is an ultra-low-profile LED grow light, however, it provides a discreet and aesthetic lighting solution for the live modules. Its compact profile is unobtrusive and allows for a neat space-saving installation, while its powerful light output means Square Mile Farms can reduce from 6-7 lights per metre to only 3-4, saving space and cost.

As a company, Square Mile Farms identified a disconnect between the food that lands on our dinner plates and where it comes from. They aim to educate and reconnect people with nature and their food sources by working with businesses and organisations to install our vertical farms within their workplaces. They project manage the farms and arrange harvest events where we talk about everything from caring for house plants to sustainability. After the harvest employees then get to take home super-fresh, zero food-mile produce.

“Our brand is all about wellness, sustainability, and moving away from pesticides and harmful chemicals. With Vertically Urban, we have found a UK partner to help us deliver farms that perfectly align with our company ethos, and we look forward to delivering more projects together in the future.”
